Mark Carney, former governor of the Bank of Canada and current financial advisor to the British government, has voiced support for recent U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran. Carney emphasized the importance of protecting civilians amid the escalating conflict.
Carney’s Statement on Middle East Conflict
In a joint statement with Canadian Minister of National Defence Bill Blair, Carney acknowledged the right of Israel and the United States to respond to attacks from Iran. The statement also underscored the need to minimize civilian casualties during military operations.
Michael Higgins of the National Post noted Carney’s support for the actions taken by the Trump administration, framing it as a necessary response to Iranian aggression.
The strikes come after Iran launched a barrage of drones and missiles towards Israel, in retaliation for a suspected Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month.
Following the strikes, a march in support of the Iranian anti-regime movement is expected to draw thousands to Richmond Hill, Ontario, according to the Toronto Star.
