Chair-Throwing Incident on Melbourne’s King Street

The security guard, who spoke with Jono, Ben and Megan on The Hits’ Breakfast show, said he initially believed one of the men was reaching for a weapon.

“I watched his mate going into the shop, I thought he was going to get a knife, so I had my eyes on him,” he said. “As soon as he popped out with the chair, I thought, I’m not being involved in this.”

The guard was impressed by the distance the chair was thrown, stating, “I’ll give him credit. I wouldn’t be able to do that if I tried and I was sober.”

The video of the incident quickly went viral, with the guard receiving messages even from his grandmother. “Within a few hours, it was everywhere. I’m getting messages from my nan, saying she has seen this on the news,” he said.

The guard believes the two men involved are unlikely to return to Melbourne anytime soon. The club has since “hired [the chair],” and it is now being used at the venue.
