Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan has called on Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs) to prioritize the national mission of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program over profit motives.

  • Target Reach: 82.9 million beneficiaries nationwide.
  • Operational Scale: 26,489 active SPPGs as of April 18, 2026.
  • Primary Beneficiaries: Children under five, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and students up to high school level.

Speaking during a dialogue with SPPG heads and partners in Banyumas District, Central Java, Hasan stated that the program is a strategic effort to advance Indonesian civilization by improving human resource quality from an early age.

He emphasized that proper nutrition has a direct impact on the physical and cognitive development of children, which is essential for Indonesia to remain competitive globally.

Prioritizing Service Over Profit

Hasan described SPPGs as vital instruments in national development. While acknowledging that profit is a necessary factor for operations, he stressed that it must not be the primary objective.

The sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program depends on the commitment of managers to maintain service quality and ensure meals are distributed effectively and to the correct targets.

The Minister further urged all stakeholders to operate with integrity and professionalism, noting that their responsibility is crucial in shaping the future of the nation’s next generation.

Program Expansion and Scope

Launched in early 2025, the MBG program currently targets 82.9 million people, including school students up to the high school level and mothers in various stages of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The government is working to expand the program’s reach this year to include persons with disabilities and older adults.

According to data from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), there were 26,489 operational SPPGs nationwide as of April 18, 2026.
