Minneapolis Shooting: Alex Pretti ID’d, Federal Agents Involved

Details are emerging about Alex Pretti, the man shot dead in Minneapolis, revealing a dedicated intensive care nurse and passionate advocate for social and environmental causes.

Who was Alex Pretti?

Family members knew Pretti legally owned a gun but were unaware of him carrying it. The 37-year-old worked as an intensive care nurse at the Veterans Administration and had recently joined protests following the killing of Renee Good by a federal immigration agent earlier this month.

“He cared about people deeply and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset,” his father, Michael Pretti, told the Associated Press. “He felt that doing the protesting was a way to express that, you know, his care for others.”

Pretti’s mother, Susan Pretti, said her son was deeply concerned about the country’s direction, particularly the Trump administration’s environmental policies. “He hated that, you know, people were just trashing the land,” she said. “He was an outdoorsman… He loved this country, but he hated what people were doing to it.”

According to his father, Pretti spoke with his parents approximately two weeks ago, advising them he understood the importance of avoiding “doing anything stupid” during the protests.

U.S. Border Patrol officers have not specified whether Pretti brandished a weapon, and bystander videos of the shooting, verified by CBS News, do not show a visible weapon.
