Three people are in stable condition after a two-alarm Mississauga townhouse fire on Friday, April 17, 2026, which sparked desperate rescue attempts by the homeowner and nearby residents.
The fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. at a residence located at 3079 Fifth Line, in the area of Erin Mills Parkway and Dundas Street West.
Rescue Efforts and Emergency Response
The homeowner, a man in his 50s, arrived home to find the residence on fire and entered the building several times to attempt to rescue his mother and brother. He was eventually found on the front lawn by emergency crews, overcome by heat and smoke.
Neighbors Jeff and Cole Dove witnessed the homeowner’s attempts to enter the burning building. Jeff Dove reported that after the homeowner entered the house for a final time, Dove ran in to tell him to evacuate before dragging the man to the porch steps as he collapsed.
Cole Dove also attempted to assist by smashing open a back window, but he was forced back by thick smoke and burning eyes, stating he could not breathe.
Mississauga Fire and Emergency Service (MFES) crews arrived to find heavy flames and thick black smoke throughout the residence. Firefighters located a woman in her 80s and a man in his 40s on the main floor and successfully pulled them from the building.
Duty Chief Daniel Boyer stated that two of the patients were unresponsive upon discovery and required resuscitation efforts on the scene before being revived.
All three individuals were transported to the hospital in serious condition. In a subsequent update, Boyer confirmed that all victims are now in stable condition.
Fire Containment and Investigation
According to MFES, the fire was primarily located in the basement and on the first floor. Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze and contain it within the single townhouse.
Chief Boyer commended the community for their heroic efforts, describing the rescue attempts as “above and beyond.” The cause, origin, and circumstances of the fire remain unknown.
