The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has distributed over P651 million in fuel subsidies to public transport operators and drivers across the nation, with the rollout continuing as scheduled.
Fuel Subsidy Distribution Progresses
LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza II stated the agency has been coordinating with regional offices and other government bodies to expedite the validation and payout processes, ensuring a smooth implementation of the program.
Mendoza acknowledged initial challenges encountered in Metro Manila, but noted that these issues have been resolved and used to refine subsequent distributions in other provinces. “We encountered several minor challenges, especially in Metro Manila, but these became lessons that helped improve the distribution in other areas,” he said. “The goal remains: a fast and efficient release of the fuel subsidy.”
The subsidy program was initiated following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to lessen the impact of increasing global oil prices amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The Department of Transportation previously allocated P2.4 billion for the program, tasking the LTFRB with its implementation even before substantial fuel price increases affected the domestic market.
As of March 17, the LTFRB reported a total of P651,185,000 distributed. Metro Manila received the largest portion at P181.278 million, followed by Calabarzon with P98.215 million, and Central Luzon with P73.416 million.
The fuel subsidy is available to drivers and operators of various public transport modes, including traditional and modern jeepneys, UV Express units, buses (including point-to-point services), transport network vehicle service (TNVS) partners, taxis, tricycles, and delivery services.
Mendoza affirmed the agency’s commitment to accelerating the remaining distribution while also exploring additional support measures for the transport sector. “The task is not yet done. There is still much to be done, but we assure the public that the government is working together to deliver this assistance as quickly as possible,” he said.
The LTFRB has also encouraged public utility vehicle terminal operators to reduce rental fees by at least 50 percent, and toll discounts for public transport units have been implemented.
