Pakistan Migration Crackdown: Warsaw Conference Support

Warsaw, Poland – A six-country ministerial conference in Warsaw voiced strong support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat illegal migration, acknowledging significant progress in curbing human smuggling and irregular movement.

Pakistan’s Migration Control Efforts Commended

The meeting convened interior ministers from several European nations, with Pakistan represented by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Discussions focused on migration control, dismantling transnational smuggling networks, and bolstering security cooperation.

Poland’s Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński hosted the conference, which also included ministers Igor Taro of Estonia, Richards Kozlovskis of Latvia, Heikki Tamminen of Finland, and Gintaras Aliksandravicius of Lithuania.

Participants unanimously recognized Pakistan’s increased action against illegal migration, citing encouraging results from enforcement efforts. The ministers agreed to develop a joint roadmap to deter irregular migration while promoting legal, safe, and regulated mobility.

European countries at the meeting expressed willingness to establish formal employment channels for Pakistani nationals through legal migration mechanisms. Designated focal persons will be appointed within interior ministries to improve coordination and information sharing.

Security Concerns Also Addressed

Beyond migration, the talks covered internal security challenges, counter-terrorism cooperation, border control systems, and combating narcotics trafficking.

Minister Naqvi informed the gathering that more than 20 terrorist groups are currently operating within Afghanistan. He emphasized Pakistan’s role in preventing the spread of terrorism beyond the region.

Naqvi stated that Pakistan’s crackdown on human smuggling has resulted in a 47 percent reduction in illegal migration to Europe, highlighting the effectiveness of recent measures. He stressed the importance of continued collaboration between Pakistan and its European partners to address shared migration and security concerns.

The Pakistani delegation included Ambassador Muhammad Sami, Usman Anwar, Ahsan Younas, Abid Khan, and Sohail Chaudhary.
