A man is in critical condition in hospital following a road traffic collision in County Louth early Saturday morning.
Road Traffic Collision in Louth Leaves Man in Critical Condition
Gardaí and emergency services responded to a serious incident on the N2 near Funshog in Collon, Louth, shortly after 3am on February 7.
The collision involved a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, received medical attention at the scene before being transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
He was subsequently transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is currently described as “critical.”
The driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was not injured.
The N2 was closed on Saturday morning and afternoon to allow for a forensic examination by Gardaí. It is expected to reopen shortly.
Gardaí have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses, particularly those with dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to come forward.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or were in the area of the N2 near Funshog, Collon, Co. Louth to contact them.
“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area between 2:40am and 3:20am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on 041 6853222, Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
