/ The Pentagon said that an American warship and several commercial ships were attacked on Sunday in the Red Sea, which may represent a major escalation in a series of naval attacks in the Middle East linked to the war between Israel and Hamas, while the “Embry” maritime security company revealed… A British ship was hit by a missile off the coast of Yemen.

The Pentagon added in a statement seen by Agency: “We are aware of reports of attacks on the USS Carney and merchant ships in the Red Sea and will provide information when it becomes available.”

The British Army had previously said that there had been a drone attack and explosions in the Red Sea, without going into details.

The Pentagon did not specify where the fire was believed to have come from. However, Yemen’s Houthi rebels are launching a series of attacks on ships in the Red Sea, as well as launching drones and missiles targeting Israel as it wages war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the Telegraph newspaper reported that a British-owned ship flying the Bahamas flag was struck while sailing in the waters of the Red Sea.

This was stated by a maritime security group based in Britain, noting that the ship was owned by Britain and had been subjected to a missile attack while sailing in the waters of the Red Sea.

The ship, which was not named, flying the Bahamas flag, was “hit by a missile” while sailing south, about 35 nautical miles off the western coast of Yemen, said the Embry Maritime Security Company. According to what was reported by “Daily Mail”.

She added: “The damaged ship was issuing distress calls related to the presence of a piracy/missile attack.”

For its part, another agency reported possible drone activity in that area.

Agence France-Presse quoted company reports saying, “A British cargo tanker was subjected to a missile attack while crossing the Red Sea.” It noted, “The cargo tanker was hit by a missile and the crew withdrew to the ship’s hull.”

Britain’s Maritime Trade Operations Agency said it had received a report about drone activity, “including a possible explosion near Bab al-Mandab and coming from the direction of Yemen.”

It is noteworthy that Bab al-Mandab connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and that region has witnessed a series of attacks in recent weeks attributed to Houthi militants in response to Israel because of its war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, November 19, the group announced the seizure of the “Galaxy Leader” cargo ship, owned by an Israeli businessman, in the Red Sea, and taking it to the Yemeni coast, in solidarity with “the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip.”
