Person injured in two-vehicle crash on Auckland motorway

One person was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash blocked lanes on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway earlier today.

Northwestern Motorway Crash Causes Significant Delays

The crash occurred near Lincoln Rd on State Highway 16 around 10 a.m., prompting a response from police, fire and St John Ambulance services.

Fire and Emergency crews arrived to find one person trapped and used specialized equipment to free them. Three fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.

St John Ambulance reported being notified at 10:05 a.m. and responded with three ambulances, a rapid response unit, and a manager. The patient was assessed and transported to Auckland City Hospital in serious condition.

Police reported that only one citybound lane remained open during the disruption, causing heavy congestion between the Lincoln Rd off-ramp and Westgate.

Citybound lanes on State Highway 16 were cleared as of 1:40 p.m. Police thanked motorists for their patience.

Public transport users experienced delays on bus lines WX1, 11T and 11W.
