PUTRAJAYA, Dec 12 — The Ministry of Health (MOH) will reopen applications for permanent pharmacist positions next year, offering contract officers another chance to secure permanent roles once additional vacancies are approved.
Permanent Pharmacist Positions to Reopen for Applications
The decision follows a recent recruitment exercise that filled only 600 permanent posts due to a limited number of available positions. The remaining contract pharmacists were unable to be absorbed as no further posts were available beyond the officially approved establishment.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the reserve status for candidates lapsed in October 2025, in accordance with existing appointment procedures.
All eligible contract pharmacists, including those previously on the reserve list, will be required to submit fresh applications when the new intake is announced.
“We remain committed to workforce planning that is transparent, merit-based, and aligned with service needs and approved staffing capacity,” the statement read.
Recent media reports highlighted the situation of 730 government pharmacists who were left in uncertainty after anticipated permanent placements did not materialize. Senator Dr R A Lingeswaran noted that these pharmacists were among 1,330 “floating officers” expected to be absorbed in October, but only 600 ultimately received posts.
