Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is preparing a cabinet reshuffle that could see three full ministers and two state ministers removed based on performance evaluations.
The current administration is moving toward a significant shake-up of its leadership ranks. The process stems from a warning issued by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during the government’s first cabinet meeting, where he demanded that every ministry submit a 180-day action plan.
Ministers Facing Removal
Reliable sources indicate that the Prime Minister has already drafted a list of officials to be removed. Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Huq Millon is reportedly at the top of the list. The government’s discomfort with Millon stems from his recent public statements and the organization of examinations during periods of disaster, making his removal nearly final, according to the same source.
Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bokul is also listed for removal.
A third full minister is also expected to be cut due to discussions regarding corruption and lobbying. In the state ministry tier, Farhad Hossain Azad, the State Minister for Water Resources, is facing removal following a social media video controversy. While Azad claims the video was created using artificial intelligence, a fact-checking platform has asserted that the video was not AI-generated.
Additionally, the son of a former minister who currently serves as a state minister may be removed following negative political discussions and allegations of exerting influence in an arrest warrant case.
Potential New Appointments and Promotions
As the list of departures is finalized, the government is simultaneously identifying new faces for the cabinet. Mahadi Amin, the Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson and advisor, is discussed as a potential candidate to take over the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, there are considerations to promote State Minister for Health Dr. M A Muhit to a full minister.

Consequently, he may opt for a policy of warning those with fewer allegations and granting them an opportunity to improve.
Presidential and Parliamentary Vacancies
While these discussions are widespread, Rasheduzzaman Millat, the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, stated that no official decision regarding the potential reshuffle has been made yet.
