Tokyo, Dec. 30 β Russian President Vladimir Putin did not include Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on a list of world leaders who received Christmas and New Yearβs greetings, according to a statement released Tuesday.
Putin Omits Japanese Prime Minister From Holiday Greetings
The Russian presidential office announced the list of leaders to whom Putin sent messages, which included U.S. President Donald Trump. This marks the first time Putin has sent holiday greetings to a leader of any of the Group of Seven major democracies since Russiaβs full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.
All members of the G-7 β Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, and the European Union β have been designated as βunfriendly countries or regionsβ by Russia in response to sanctions imposed over the invasion of Ukraine.
The list of recipients also included North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and leaders from the BRICS group of emerging economies: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
