Radio station One Fm 91.3 criticised for jumping on PLB scandal bandwagon with parody skit

One FM 91.3, a local radio station, has faced criticism for creating a parody skit based on a recent cheating scandal involving PropertyLimBrothers (PLB) co-founder Melvin Lim and Grayce Tan.

Radio Station’s Parody Draws Backlash

Videos alleging intimate behavior between Mr. Lim and Ms. Tan surfaced online earlier this week. In response, One FM 91.3 shared a parody video on Wednesday (Jan 28) recreating elements of the viral scandal.

The skit featured DJ Lavinia Tan “leopard crawling” towards a closed door, mimicking a scene from the original video, with sounds suggesting activity inside the room. She then raised her phone as if to record.

The parody took a comedic turn, revealing the noises came from DJ Shan Wee assisting DJ The Flying Dutchman with a stretch. The post was captioned, “The whole of Singapore be leopard crawling now,” referencing the original video’s depiction of someone crawling to overhear the alleged encounter.

Netizen Criticism

While some viewers found the parody amusing, others criticized the station for capitalizing on the scandal and questioned its professionalism as a mainstream media outlet.

Comments on TikTok urged the station to “be professional,” while others asked if creating such content was necessary. Some netizens labeled the skit as “a shame” and “distasteful.”

Background of the PLB Scandal

The parody references a video linked to Melvin Lim, who has been removed from the PLB website following the allegations. The circulating videos allegedly captured audio of Mr. Lim and Ms. Tan behind a closed door.

Both individuals are married, but not to each other. A WhatsApp message allegedly from Mr. Lim surfaced on January 26, stating he had “made a personal mistake and crossed boundaries” and announcing that both he and Ms. Tan would step down from their leadership roles.

Mr. Lim and Ms. Tan have since stepped down from real estate agency KW Singapore, where he was operating principal and she was director of growth. KW Singapore operates as a separate business from PLB, according to The Straits Times.

One FM 91.3 has been contacted for further information.
