Rockstar Games announced a closed beta for nopixel 5, the official GTA Online roleplaying server developed alongside nopixel. Launching September 8, 2026, on the proprietary Rockstar Launcher, the invite-only release features a reworked character creator, refreshed visuals, and new landmarks like the Pixel Hotel & Casino.
Rockstar Brings Official Support to nopixel 5
Rockstar Games is officially throwing its weight behind the Grand Theft Auto roleplaying community. More than three years after acquiring FiveM—the multiplayer modding platform that powered the original GTA Online RP platform the studio once tried to suppress—the developer revealed the fruits of that partnership. The studio announced that a watch-only closed beta for nopixel 5 will kick off on September 8, 2026.
Rockstar is finally throwing its weight behind nopixel, a group that has long redefined roleplay via deep immersion and custom map tweaks,
Rockstar wrote in its announcement blog. The server represents a major milestone for enthusiast players who have spent years building custom experiences within Los Santos.
“Starting 8 September, nopixel 5 closed beta kicks off, allowing a handful of invited players to jump in using the studio’s own launcher.”

Inside the nopixel V Rework and Closed Beta Access
The upcoming closed beta is structured as an invite-only release rather than an open application process. According to lead developer Koil, writing in the server’s official Discord on August 13, the project represents a full rebuild following nearly three years of development. Initial access will roll out in phases across an allowlist containing 439 invited players, including content creators and select roleplay participants.
Surprise! We are excited to show you what we've been working on, the hours poured into this project, and the journey that's about to start,
Koil announced in the server’s official Discord.

While everyday gamers cannot apply for immediate entry, fans can watch the action unfold through livestreams starting September 8. Previous versions of nopixel have stirred up ill will for charging server applicants for priority boosts, costing up to $500 for only 15 days of potential access, and offering extra character slots for a fee. However, the new release aims to establish a fresh start, with Koil noting, We're using this moment as a genuine reset and a fresh start for the nopixel whitelist.
Koil confirmed that existing public and 4.0 servers will remain active and supported, assuring players that everyone has a chance at a path in.
New Map Additions and the Finish Line for the Mile High Club
The new server build introduces significant technical and environmental upgrades to Grand Theft Auto 5. Rockstar highlighted a reworked character customization system, refreshed visuals, and more reactive pedestrians across the shared multiplayer world. Among the most striking map changes is the completion of the Mile High Club—a skyscraper that has been under construction since the game’s very first reveal trailer in 2011. Exclusive to the new platform, the building is now a hotel and casino for roleplayers alongside a six-block revamp of Cypress Flats.

Running directly through the Rockstar Games Launcher, the server means you won’t have to tinker with any third-party tools or platforms.
What This Means as GTA 6 Approaches
The timing of the launch draws considerable attention from the gaming community as the November 19 launch date for Grand Theft Auto 6 approaches, serving as a distraction from the slow crescendo of GTA 6 paranoia. While Rockstar has yet to make any kind of comments or announcement on the next iteration of GTA Online, industry observers point out that the single-player of GTA 6 is already a very roleplay-intensive experience.
GTA Roleplay has essentially morphed Grand Theft Auto 5 into a community-driven, multiplayer rendition of Los Santos where participants inhabit bespoke characters to weave personal narratives in a living, shared ecosystem,
the studio explained. Whether official roleplaying servers will eventually extend to the next era of the franchise remains unconfirmed, but the ongoing collaboration demonstrates a permanent shift in how the developer supports its most dedicated multiplayer communities.
