King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden will visit Warsaw and Gdańsk, Poland, from March 10-12, as the relationship between the two countries shifts to focus on security alongside economic ties.

Swedish Royal Visit Highlights Evolving Poland-Sweden Relationship

This three-day state visit, at the invitation of President Karol Nawrocki, marks the third Swedish state visit to Poland, following previous visits in 1993 and 2011. It is the first visit by the Swedish royal couple since 2011, and the Swedish monarch typically undertakes only one state visit abroad annually.

According to Adam Rogowski, co-CEO at Swedish-Polish Chamber of Commerce, Sweden’s recent NATO accession has been a “watershed moment,” aligning the countries on shared threat assessments, defence posture, and the future of European security. Rogowski also noted a convergence on issues including Ukraine, Baltic Sea resilience, and critical infrastructure.

Business and Defence Intertwined

The visit will coincide with the signing of several contracts in the defence sector, building upon existing strong economic relations. Officials state that economic security is a key underpinning of the strengthened relationship, driven by pressing security challenges faced by both nations.
