Within this province, the district of Gampaha has reported 14,112 cases, while the district of Colombo has reported 13,471. Other significant clusters are found in the Southern Province, which has recorded 10,765 cases, as well as the Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, which have reported 5,807 and 5,681 cases respectively. To combat the outbreak, the Air Force is utilizing drones to detect stagnant water on rooftops, and nearly 11,000 mosquito breeding sites have been cleared this month. Officials have levied fines at more than 4,000 premises found to harbor breeding sites. While officials hope for a plateau in August, the presence of a more virulent DENV-2 strain—accounting for approximately 75% of cases—makes future projections difficult.
