“42 years ago, on a day like today, my mother Laura Carlotto was murdered. Just on this always sad anniversary, I have breakfast with the statements of a former president, who, very loose in his body, publicly says that the upcoming elections could not take place because he predicts a coup, ”Ignacio said in a Twitter thread.
According to the musician, the ex-president’s statements “go against the responsibility that we must all assume, in order to continue to build that basic consensus, which is to understand democracy as the best possible path.”
His grandmother and Laura’s mother, Estela de Carlotto, expressed the same sense. The president of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo said that Duhalde with his “atrocities is sowing fear.” In addition, he demanded that the ex-president “give explanations of what he meant” and affirmed that in honor of Laura, she “would put the body” in case there was “a minimal intention of a new coup.”
The statements by Ignacio Guido and Estela de Carlotto emerged after former President Eduardo Duhalde stated on Monday night on a television program that “it is ridiculous that they think that next year there will be legislative elections” in the country and even suggested the possibility of a breakdown of the constitutional order.
Laura Carlotto was murdered at dawn on August 25, 1978, a year after she was kidnapped and taken to the La Cacha clandestine center in La Plata. On June 26, 1978, she had given birth to her son, who she only had five hours with before he was taken away. Ignacio Guido was identified on August 5, 2014 and became the 114th recovered grandson.
