A new wave of United States and Israeli strikes hit Tehran overnight, following a warning from President Donald Trump that “Iran will be hit very hard.” The strikes targeted an oil refinery in southern Tehran, according to Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency.
Strikes Target Oil Facility
Massive plumes of flames were visible in the Tehran skyline Saturday night after an oil storage facility was targeted. Associated Press video showed the horizon glowing, followed by pillars of flame and billowing smoke.
It is among the first instances of a civil industrial facility being targeted in the conflict. Israel’s military has not immediately commented on the specific targets of the latest strike, but confirmed recent strikes within Tehran.
In response, Iranian state media has threatened to strike oil refineries in Haifa, Israel.
Trump’s Warning and Iranian Response
The strikes lasted approximately one hour, with reports of explosions in the east, south, and north-west of Tehran. Earlier Saturday, Trump warned on his social media platform that more Iranian officials would become targets, stating, “Today Iran will be hit very hard!”
Trump also referenced an apology from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for attacks on regional neighbours. He added, “Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behaviour, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time,” without providing further details.
A video circulating on social media reportedly shows an explosion at Dubai International Airport.
