Tenisha Warner Sues Pamela Warner for $1.2 Million Over Estate Obligations

The legal dispute centers on the estate of the actor best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, who died at age 54 on July 20, 2025. Tenisha Warner, his widow, alleges that the actor failed to fulfill several financial obligations outlined in a premarital agreement signed on May 23, 2022, only eight days before the couple married.

Unpaid Obligations and the Warner Family Trust

According to the lawsuit, the filing obtained by TMZ claims the late actor left behind at least $1,276,042.46 in unpaid debts. Tenisha Warner argues that because the actor’s estate lacks the assets to satisfy these claims, the funds should be recovered from the Warner Family Trust, which is overseen by his mother, Pamela Warner, as the successor trustee.

• $1,000,000 for a term life insurance policy for which Tenisha was to be the sole beneficiary.
• $195,000 in salary for Tenisha’s role as the actor’s “chief of staff,” calculated at $5,000 per month.
• $50,542.46 related to an anniversary gift provision of $16,000 per year.
• $30,500 for Roth IRA funding.

As reported by CBC, the petition alleges that money from retirement accounts and life insurance has already been distributed to other family members, totaling more than $1.25 million. Tenisha is asking the court to freeze further trust distributions while the case proceeds.

Legal Claims and Estate Planning Discrepancies

At the heart of the dispute is a 1996 trust that Tenisha Warner contends is outdated. She asserts that the document was created 20 years before she met the actor and well before the birth of their nine-year-old daughter, MacKenzie. In a statement provided to CBS News, Tenisha noted that her husband had intended to update his estate planning.

He was close to finalizing a new estate plan to replace the stale plan created in 1996 when he was 26 years old, 20 years before we met and well before we gave birth to our beautiful daughter. The legal filing coincides with the one-year anniversary of the actor’s death. Today reports that Pamela Warner posted a tribute to her son on Instagram, reflecting on the past year. In her statement, she wrote, During my year-long journey, I have discovered how cruel, evil, and greedy a human can be, while also acknowledging the support she has received from others.

Tenisha Warner has also spoken publicly about her experience as a single mother following the tragedy. In an interview, she described the emotional toll, stating, The emotional capacity that I have can be very limited sometimes, you know? And so, I have to, for myself, decide, what do I have to give right now in this moment? And whatever I have to give, the first person to get that is my daughter.

While representatives for the estate and Pamela Warner have not commented on the specific allegations, hearings in the matter are currently scheduled for September 23 and October 1 in Los Angeles.
