/ The Iraqi Football Association announced, on Monday, the date of stopping the Iraq Stars League in preparation for the Iraqi national team’s meeting with its Indonesian counterpart in Basra in the middle of this month, as part of the double qualifiers for the Asian and World Cups.
Member of the Football Association and the official spokesman, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, told Agency, “The stoppage will take place after the end of the fourth round, and the players will gather internally in preparation for the match with the Indonesian national team, which is the first in its qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.”
Al-Moussawi added, “The Iraqi national team will gather on the 12th of this month in Basra in preparation for its first meeting against Indonesia on the 16th of this month at the Medina International Stadium in Basra.”
Al-Moussawi explained, “The national team’s coach, Jesus Casas, will arrive in Iraq on the 7th of this month, and that the federation will prepare all means of preparation for the national team before it enters the Asian competitions and faces Indonesia at the beginning of the journey.”
He stated, “Casas will announce his squad this week, and it will include four professional players who were previously injured and recovered, namely Saad Natiq, Zidane Iqbal, Hussein Ali, and now Mohiuddin.”
The double qualifying draw for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup placed Iraq in the fourth group alongside Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam.
