/ On Thursday, the UAE inaugurated the Al Dhafra photovoltaic solar power station, with a production capacity of 2 gigawatts, which is the largest solar power station in one location in the world.

On this occasion, Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, stressed that the UAE is continuing with its plans to enhance energy security and sources by creating a diverse and flexible mix that contributes to reducing emissions and supports the national economy and sustainable development efforts.

He said: “This pioneering project, the launch of which comes close to our hosting of the COP28 Conference of the Parties, is an example of projects implemented in accordance with national strategies aimed at raising the share of clean energy, reducing emissions, and supporting global efforts to stimulate effective climate action, in a way that mitigates the effects of climate change and supports the comprehensive sustainable development process.” “.

He added: “We are witnessing, day after day, and project after project, the fulfillment of the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, for the UAE to be at the forefront of countries in the world in adopting clean energy and innovative solutions in this field, in order to achieve energy security on the one hand, and contribute to In building a bright future for generations on the other hand.”

The Al Dhafra Solar Power Plant, which was established in one phase, is located 35 kilometers from the city of Abu Dhabi, and contributes to supplying about 200,000 homes with electricity and avoiding the release of 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

The project was built on a site extending over an area of 20 square kilometers, and contributed to providing 4,500 job opportunities during the construction phase.

The station includes approximately 4 million bifacial solar panels, which is an innovative technology that allows the production of electrical energy more efficiently by capturing solar radiation through the front and back sides of the solar panels.

The Al Dhafra station project was established by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, along with the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), EDF Renewables, and Ginco Power, in cooperation with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.
