There’s nothing more wholesome in life than a cute kitten. Memes and videos concerned with kittens that are either looking adorable or falling off things form the bedrock on which modern platforms like YouTube are constructed. However, one place that has zero need for cute felines is the modern world of blockchain games.
Everything has to start somewhere, and blockchain games started with cryptokitties. Not to put too fine a point on it, the NFT-trading Ethereum game will never go down as a classic in anyone’s book, despite its pioneering nature. The problem is that cryptokitties are the creatures that jump to most minds when blockchain games are mentioned. The good news is that five years on, we can safely leave them for posterity to deal with as it sees fit. Here we look at some genuinely exciting games that can and will put blockchain gaming firmly on the map in 2023.
iGaming
Before we rush off into the future, there’s one area of gaming that was building linkages with blockchain long before cryptokitties came about. The first crypto casino launched almost nine years ago, and since then crypto adoption in this sector has soared.
Its popularity extends beyond traditional casino gaming to sports betting and, in particular, online poker. In fact, playing blockchain poker online is rapidly being adopted as a method of choice across the US and beyond. Players appreciate its high levels of security and anonymity. It is also an obvious choice in states where banking restrictions make other transaction methods more difficult.
Battle Infinity
This massively ambitious project is breathtaking in its possibilities. It aims to bring us a whole compendium of virtual sports and games, all in one arena in which players can enter contests, buy and sell rewards and socially interact.
Keeping our feet on the ground, Battle Infinity has launched the first game in its ecosystem. IBAT Premier League is an NFT-powered fantasy sports game through which players can do battle and earn rewards. It’s a great start, but it only scratches the surface, and it is genuinely exciting to imagine how this arena might look in 12 or 24 months time. It’s well worth being in on the ground floor.
Illuvium
If you’ve heard of any Blockchain game beyond those felines we will no longer mention, it is probably Illuvium. It’s a science fiction style adventure that has been getting a lot of pre-release attention and will provide good opportunities to earn Ethereum.
Yes, there are Illuvials to collect – 100 of them in all. However, there is more to this game than catching NFTs. The vast number of quests and special competitions make this a game with addictive qualities. Best of all, in-game trading is gasless, which will make it even more attractive to most players.
Illuvium Zero was released in an alpha version last month, and full access to the Illuvium ecosystem is expected to open up this summer. There are exciting times ahead.
