A Minnesota magistrate judge has dismissed charges against former CNN anchor Don Lemon related to an anti-ICE protest at a St. Paul church, while also blocking charges for two other protesters. Three individuals were arrested during the demonstration.
Don Lemon Protest Case Dismissed
Judge Laura Nelson rejected the charges against Lemon, who was accused of interfering with a public meeting after he confronted Nekima Levy Armstrong during a service at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in January. Armstrong had interrupted the service to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Nekima Levy Armstrong, an activist and attorney, was among those arrested. According to reports, Armstrong disrupted the church service to protest ICE’s actions and advocate for the rights of immigrants.
The judge’s decision blocks charges for two other protesters as well. The specific details of the charges against the protesters were not immediately available.
Lemon was reportedly at the church to interview Armstrong for a documentary series. He attempted to engage with her during the protest, leading to his arrest.
The case drew attention due to Lemon’s high profile and the First Amendment implications of the charges. The judge’s decision means Lemon and the two other protesters will not face further legal action related to the incident.
