Three women were killed early Sunday morning after the hatchback they were traveling in rammed into a stationary truck in the Narengi area of Guwahati.
The victims have been identified as Puja Saha of Goalpara, Akanshya Saikia of Sivasagar, and Neha Khan of Barpeta. Police confirmed that Saha and Saikia were employees in the admission department of Royal Global University.
Details of the Guwahati Car Accident
The crash occurred around 3:40 am near Gate Hospital at Mathgharia. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS01GP0562, was reportedly heading toward Narengi when it struck a truck parked on the roadside.
Traffic police officials stated the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a very high speed. After hitting the parked truck, the car struck a divider and toppled multiple times, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.
Two of the women died instantly at the scene. Rescue teams utilized a bulldozer to extricate the third woman from the wreckage; she was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Police Investigation and Driver Search
The driver of the hatchback fled the scene immediately following the impact and remains absconding. Police have launched a search operation to locate and apprehend him.
Preliminary investigations revealed the vehicle is registered to a resident of Dhemaji and had been rented to a travel agency. Officials are attempting to contact the agency, though their phones are currently switched off.
Authorities have seized the truck involved in the collision and are working to contact its owner as part of the ongoing probe.
