Senator Markwayne Mullin, a nominee for Department of Homeland Security, challenged the president of the Teamsters union to a physical fight during a Senate hearing in 2023. The exchange occurred after Mullin questioned Sean O’Brien about a previous social media post directed at the senator.
Mullin-O’Brien Exchange
Mullin referenced a tweet from O’Brien that read, “You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy.” Mullin then stated, “So this is a time, this is a place. You wanna run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here.”
O’Brien responded, “Okay, that’s fine,” and “I’d love to do it right now.”
Mullin then told O’Brien to “stand your butt up,” to which O’Brien retorted, “You stand your butt up big guy.”
Mullin began to rise from his seat, appearing as though he would approach O’Brien, before Senator Bernie Sanders, the committee chair, intervened. Sanders told Mullin, “You’re a United States senator. Sit down.”
