Trump’s Iran Exit & Tehran’s War Resolve – Weeks Away?

The war in Iran could be costing the United States as much as $2 billion (£1.5 billion) per day, according to experts tracking the economic impact of the conflict.

Stephanie Savell, director of Brown University’s Cost of War project, says the conflict has already cost Americans tens of billions of dollars when factoring in weapons, military spending, damage to US assets, and other expenses.

“Every day that the war is ongoing is adding a huge amount to the public debt,” Savell said.

The Pentagon reported to Congress earlier this month that the first six days of the war cost $11.3 billion, though Savell believes the actual figure is higher.

Linda Blimes, a Harvard University defence budgets expert, estimates the war is currently costing around $2 billion per day.

Savell notes that these costs are ultimately passed on to the average American, and the war has already caused disruption to gas prices. Potential long-term impacts include inflation, business uncertainty, and increased insurance costs.

The White House recently requested an additional $200 billion (£150 billion) to fund the war in Iran, which Savell says demonstrates the ongoing nature of the conflict.

“It really does cement that the war is ongoing,” she said.
