Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued fresh warnings to Belarus, citing unusual activity along the shared border and asserting that Ukraine is prepared to respond to any aggressive actions.
- President Zelenskyy reports suspicious activity on the Belarus border and is reinforcing defenses with new roads and artillery.
- Russian forces claim control of Myropillia in the Sumy region and Novodmytrivka in the Donetsk region.
- Civilian casualties were reported in Kherson following drone strikes on transport, while Ukrainian drones targeted Russia’s Tuapse port.
Zelenskyy Warnings to Belarus and Border Security
In a video address shared on social media on Saturday, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is closely documenting suspicious activity along sections of the border. He warned that any party drawn into aggressive actions against Ukraine must understand the country is ready to defend its sovereignty.
The Ukrainian leader has previously warned Minsk against becoming entangled in the conflict, suggesting Moscow would attempt to draw Belarus into the war. To counter potential threats, Ukraine is currently establishing new roads and artillery positions along the border.
Zelenskyy also accused Russia of utilizing apartment blocks within Belarus to launch attacks and bypass Ukrainian defenses in December. While Russian forces crossed from Belarus toward Kyiv during the initial February 2022 invasion, Belarus did not participate directly in the fighting.
Civilian Strikes and Infrastructure Damage
Zelenskyy reported a “brutal attack” on the city of Kherson in southern Ukraine, where drones targeted civilian transport. In the Dniprovskyi district, a strike on a minibus reportedly killed at least two people.
Further strikes were reported in Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv. A drone strike hit an energy infrastructure facility, though officials confirmed that power has since been restored.
Front Line Developments and Drone Warfare
The Russian Ministry of Defence reported advances on the front line, claiming control of the village of Myropillia in the Sumy region on Saturday. Previously, on Wednesday, Russia claimed control of Novodmytrivka, located north of Kostiantynivka in the eastern Donetsk region.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskii noted that Russian troops are moving toward Kostiantynivka, part of a heavily defended “fortress belt area.” Syrskii indicated that Russian assaults increased noticeably throughout April.
Drone activity has remained intense, with Ukrainian officials reporting more than 400 Russian drones launched on Friday. Simultaneously, Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Tuapse port for the fourth time in 16 days, a move Zelenskyy described as a new stage in limiting Russia’s war potential.
