Ummat Party Questions Removal of Amien Rais Video on Prabowo

The Ummat Party is questioning the removal of an Amien Rais YouTube video in which the party’s Advisory Council Chair alleged a relationship beyond professional boundaries between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Ansufri Idrus Sambo, Secretary of the Advisory Council of the Central Executive Board of the Ummat Party, addressed the disappearance of the content during the party’s National Assembly in Yogyakarta on Saturday night, May 2, 2026. Sambo asserted that the video was taken down because the government has the power to do so.

Sambo expressed regret over the government’s sensitivity to criticism in a democratic country. He questioned why the response to this specific criticism was so rapid while other harmful content, such as online gambling, remains untouched.

Ummat Party Response and Legal Stance

The Ummat Party plans to file a formal protest with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to challenge why the video was removed. Sambo argued that the allegations regarding the relationship between Prabowo and Teddy have been common knowledge and have circulated on social media for some time.

Sambo defended Amien Rais, stating that the senior politician’s straightforward style of protest is based on specific grounds, including events such as Teddy’s birthday that have been widely discussed online.

The party confirmed that neither Amien Rais nor the Ummat Party received any prior notification before the video was deleted. Sambo stated the party is prepared to face the matter legally if the video is contested by Komdigi. When asked if the video would be re-uploaded, Sambo said the party will see how the situation develops.

Ministry of Communication and Digital Response

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid previously countered these claims, stating that the video featuring Amien Rais contained hate speech and slanderous narratives. In a written statement on May 1, 2026, Hafid claimed the video lacked a factual basis and was an attempt to provoke public unrest and degrade the dignity of the highest state leaders.

Hafid emphasized that digital democracy should be a venue for competing ideas rather than a space for content that attacks human dignity or threatens to divide the nation.
