The distance creates significant communication hurdles. As Voyager project manager Suzy Dodd explained, the time delay for a round-trip signal is now approximately 23 hours. By the time the probe reaches the one light-day mark, signals will take more than 23 hours to travel between the spacecraft and the Deep Space Network’s antennas in California, Spain, and Australia.

Engineering for Longevity: The Golden Record and Pulsar Map

Beyond its scientific instruments, Voyager 1 carries the Golden Record, a gold-plated copper disc designed to serve as a message from humanity to any future civilization that might encounter the probe. Power Constraints and the Future of the Mission
