Weather alert issued across Greater Manchester amid widespread flight and transport warning

A weather alert has been issued for parts of the UK, including Greater Manchester, prompting warnings of potential disruption to travel. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for fog that is expected to cause hazardous conditions.

Fog Warning Issued for Greater Manchester and Northwest England

Heavy fog may cause some disruption to travel during Thursday evening and night, according to forecasters. The warning is likely to cause delays or cancellations to flights and slower journey times on public transport, including trains and buses.

The weather warning is in place from 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, and will remain overnight until 7 a.m. on Friday. The affected areas in Greater Manchester include Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Manchester, Trafford, Salford, and parts of Tameside.

“Fog patches will become more widespread and dense in places during Thursday evening with visibility falling below 100 m in places,” meteorologists said. “Fog will thin and lift into low cloud late in the night or early on Friday morning.”

Travelers are advised to check road conditions if driving, allow extra journey time, or amend plans if necessary. Drivers should ensure fog lights are switched on and functioning properly before setting off.

Bus and train services, as well as flights and ferry travel, may also be affected. Travelers should check for updates from their travel company and follow their advice.

The warning also covers other parts of the northwest, including Blackburn, Blackpool, Cheshire, Merseyside, and Warrington.
