Woman dies after car crashes into cafe on North Shore

A woman died and two others were injured after a car crashed into a café on Auckland’s North Shore this morning. Emergency services responded to the single-vehicle crash on William Souter St in Forrest Hill shortly before 9 a.m.

Police said the car mounted the curb, striking two people before colliding with a building. One of those individuals was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died from their injuries, according to a police spokesperson.

St John Ambulance reported another person sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital. A third person, also with moderate injuries, received treatment at the scene.

A nearby worker described hearing a loud bang and characterized the scene as “heartbreaking.” Witnesses reported a person from a neighboring vet clinic rushed to assist, providing comfort to the critically injured woman and attempting to keep her conscious. Others focused on ensuring the safety of those nearby.

William Souter St was closed between East Coast Rd and Morton Ave while the serious crash unit investigated the incident.
