World leaders have condemned an act of “political violence” following a shooting incident at the White House correspondents dinner on Saturday, which necessitated the evacuation of President Donald Trump and other high-ranking officials.

Details of the White House Correspondents Dinner Shooting
Donald and Melania Trump, along with members of the US cabinet, were evacuated from the ballroom at the Washington Hilton after gunshots were heard in the hotel lobby.
Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser stated during a press conference that a sole gunman rushed at the Secret Service in the hotel lobby. She noted there is no reason to believe anyone else was involved in the incident.
DC Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll reported that investigators believe the suspect fired a shot and was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives. Police believe the suspect had been a guest at the hotel.
The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, is currently in custody and is being evaluated at a local hospital.
International Reaction
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed relief that the President, First Lady, and guests were safe, stating that “political violence has no place in any democracy.”
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also shared her relief regarding the safety of the President and First Lady, adding that “violence must never be the way.”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese applauded the swift action of law enforcement agencies and the Secret Service in securing the attendees.
British Ambassador to the United States Christian Turner, who was in attendance, praised the professional response of the Secret Service and expressed well wishes for an injured officer.
