ASEAN Backs Philippines Cruise Tourism

ASEAN is actively backing the Philippines’ efforts to promote its island destinations through cruise tourism. This initiative aims to boost the country’s tourism sector and attract more international visitors. Cebu City recently hosted the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, outlining a vision for ASEAN tourism and showcasing the Philippines’ readiness for global events.

Regional Tourism Recovery

ASEAN has noted a “positive” trend in tourism recovery, forecasting approximately 144 million visitors across the region by 2025. This projection reflects a growing demand for travel within Southeast Asia and increased connectivity between member states.

Cebu’s Role as Host and MICE Hub

Cebu has been selected as the host city for the ATF 2026, demonstrating its capacity to host large-scale international events. The city also launched a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) guidebook to further showcase its readiness for purpose-driven global events.

Strengthening Tourism Ties with Key Markets

Japan, Korea, and China are seeking to strengthen their ties with ASEAN through a Tourism Action Plan. This collaboration aims to enhance tourism cooperation and promote travel between these key markets and ASEAN member states.
