A family is seeking answers after a young girl died in Fiji, alleging a lack of safety precautions and accountability surrounding her death. The family claims the tour company prioritized profit over safety and that local authorities failed to adequately investigate the incident.
Family Alleges Negligence in Fiji Waterfall Death
The family of Lilly, who died in Fiji, has publicly stated that her passing was “due to a complete failure in duty of care.” They allege they were not properly informed of the risks associated with visiting the waterfall, nor were they given safety instructions, particularly regarding conditions during rainfall.
According to the family, locals later informed them that the waterfall is unsafe to visit when it is raining. They also claim they were led to the waterfall by a child who was not affiliated with the tour guide company, with “no preparation, no proper guidance, no clear safety protocols.”
The family further alleges the tour company was “clearly more focused on money than safety,” overcharging for the experience and proceeding despite known risks. Following Lilly’s death, they claim there was a “shocking lack of accountability and compassion.”
The family states the village chief and local leadership did not reach out to offer condolences or take responsibility, and that police showed a lack of action and even blamed the family for the girl’s death. They believe the investigation has not been taken seriously and feel authorities are attempting to dismiss the incident.
“This is about duty of care, tourist safety, and protecting children and families,” the family stated. “We want accountability, awareness, and change, so no other family ever has to experience this pain. We need justice for our sweet Lilly.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family but declined to provide further comment due to privacy obligations. Fiji Police have been contacted for comment.
