An elderly couple was found dead in their Punggol home on Tuesday morning, Feb. 27. Police have classified the case as one involving unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.
Couple Found Dead in Punggol Flat
Relatives discovered the couple, a 71-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, lying motionless in their tenth-floor unit at Block 408B Northshore Drive. A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic pronounced them dead at the scene, and blood was found inside the flat.
A neighbor, Mr. Liu, described the woman as outgoing and talkative, often greeting residents as she left and returned home. The man was more reserved and frequently tended to plants along the corridor.
The couple had been married for 48 years, having wed in 1978, according to records from the Registry of Marriages.
Mr. Liu said he last saw the woman recently when she visited him with mandarins and red packets. He hadn’t seen the man in about three weeks. The couple had resided in their Punggol flat for approximately five years and were often seen together.
Mr. Liu recalled the woman once giving a red packet containing $20 to his helper during a Chinese New Year celebration.
Records from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) show the couple previously owned a shipping company that ceased operations in 2021.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
