Workers in Indonesia report the highest levels of happiness at work in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a recent survey. The study, published by employment marketplace Jobstreet by SEEK, found 82% of Indonesian respondents felt somewhat or extremely happy in their jobs.
Indonesia’s Happiest Workers in Asia-Pacific
The workplace report surveyed eight regional markets and revealed a significant disparity in worker satisfaction. The Philippines followed Indonesia with a 77% happiness rate, while Malaysia scored 70%, Thailand 67%, and New Zealand 65%.
At the lower end of the rankings were Australia (57%), Singapore (56%), and Hong Kong (47%). The report attributes the lower scores in these locations to more competitive corporate cultures and higher cost of living pressures.
Experts suggest the high levels of happiness reported in Indonesia are likely a combination of cultural attitudes, strong social ties in the workplace, and a general tendency towards contentment. However, the survey also indicates underlying tensions, including burnout, job insecurity, and limited opportunities for those who leave the workforce.
