Parents of Nottingham attacks victim describe ‘unfolding horror’ at manslaughter charge

The parents of Barnaby Webber tracked his phone to a police station as news of attacks in Nottingham unfolded, according to his father, David Webber. The family’s attempts to locate Barnaby coincided with reports of a fast-changing scene and the discovery of two bodies.

David Webber said he awoke to news reports about an incident in Nottingham and immediately tried to contact his son, but his calls went unanswered.

He then used the Find My Phone app to determine Barnaby’s location. Initially, the phone appeared to be near Barnaby’s accommodation.

“I decided to have a look on my phone to see if I could see where he was and I could see he was in Ilkeston Road, but he was quite close to his accommodation or the phone was quite close to his accommodation, so I didn’t really think too far beyond that,” David said.

David noted it was unusual to be unable to reach Barnaby. His mother, Emma, attempted to contact a hospital while David tried reaching the police.

“I remember a distinct change of voice in the lady I was speaking to,” David added.

He was told the situation was “a fast-changing scene” and that police were unable to provide information at that time. News reports at the time indicated that a man and a woman had been found dead.

“And then I just saw the phone start to move and that’s when I really panicked,” David said.

After repeatedly calling Barnaby’s phone, the family tracked it to Radford Road Police Station.
