Trump Issues Ultimatum
Former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to intensify attacks on Iran if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened by Monday, according to his post on Truth Social. He had previously issued an ultimatum on March 26, demanding Iran “MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT.”
Iran’s Response
Tehran responded with a warning to the U.S. and Israel, stating its forces would turn the region into a “hell” for their troops if Trump followed through on his threats. A regime spokesman told Iranian media, “Do not forget that if aggression expands, the entire region will turn into a hell for you,” and added, “The illusion of defeating the Islamic Republic of Iran has turned into a swamp in which you will sink.”
Military Engagements and Downed Aircraft
US and Iranian forces are searching for a downed American airman following a strike near an Iranian nuclear power plant that prompted evacuations. Tehran claims to have shot down an F-15 warplane and a US A-10 ground attack aircraft, with US media reporting the rescue of pilots from both planes, though one crew member remains missing. Locals reportedly fired upon US helicopters involved in the search.
Bushehr Nuclear Plant Strike
A strike near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant on Saturday resulted in one fatality and prompted Russia, which assists in the operation of the facility, to evacuate 198 workers. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that continued attacks on the plant could lead to radioactive fallout affecting Gulf Cooperation Council capitals. The International Atomic Energy Agency expressed “deep concern” and stated that no increase in radiation levels had been reported.
Attacks on Commercial and Industrial Sites
Strikes by all sides have increasingly targeted economic and industrial sites. On Saturday, US-Israeli strikes hit a petrochemicals hub, a cement plant, and a trade terminal on the Iran-Iraq border, resulting in one death. Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US allies in the Gulf. Shrapnel from intercepted drones injured four people in Bahrain, and debris struck two buildings in Dubai, including one housing Oracle.
Revolutionary Guards Target Vessel
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced they targeted the MSC Ishyka, a commercial vessel allegedly “owned by the Israeli regime,” at the Khalifa Bin Salman port in Bahrain.
Fighting in Lebanon and Beirut
The Israeli military reported striking over 3,500 targets across Lebanon in the past month as fighting with Iran-backed Hezbollah continues. Israeli strikes destroyed bridges in the Bekaa region. Explosions were heard in Beirut on Saturday, and a hospital in Tyre was damaged by nearby strikes, wounding 11 people. An evacuation warning was issued for Tyre, though tens of thousands remain in the city.
