Gallant Knight 3 Launches Pest Control Project to Improve Health in Gaza

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip faced a significant intervention as international agencies and local authorities mobilized to address mounting environmental health threats. On July 22, 2026, the operation known as Gallant Knight 3 officially initiated a comprehensive pest-control program, focusing on the eradication of rodents and insects in densely populated areas and camps for displaced persons. The operation has committed to providing all requirements and supplies necessary to carry out these field campaigns, utilizing safe and effective methods to reduce epidemic risks and prevent the transmission of diseases.

UN Coordination and Local Implementation

The program aims to curb the spread of infectious diseases exacerbated by the accumulation of waste and rubble throughout the territory. The project was announced during a press conference that featured a wide coalition of United Nations representatives and local municipal leaders. Key participants included Alessandro Marakitch, official of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Gaza Strip; Suzana Takalic, Deputy UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the Palestinian Territories; Abdel Qader Musa, official of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Gaza; Ginevra, coordinator of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Cluster; Taher Ibrahim, director of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); and Amjad Al-Shawa, programs manager at the United Nations Development Programme. Local representation included Khalil Abu Samra, Mayor of Deir al-Balah, and Ahmed Al-Sufi, Mayor of Rafah.

The initiative is designed to operate in high-density zones where the risk of epidemic outbreaks remains high. By deploying safe and effective measures, the project seeks to provide a healthier environment for vulnerable populations, including children, women, and the elderly. Yahya Al-Sarraj, coordinator of the Gaza Strip Municipalities Union, emphasized that the project’s timing is critical to addressing the environmental and health challenges caused by the accumulation of waste and rubble, which pose a direct threat to vulnerable groups.

Medical Infrastructure Support and Kidney Care

Beyond pest control, Gallant Knight 3 has intensified its broader medical aid efforts. The operation recently delivered a new convoy of medicines and medical supplies to the World Health Organization (WHO) to bolster the health system in Gaza. This effort was a direct response to the urgent needs identified by the organization to ensure hospitals and medical facilities can continue providing services. The convoy included thousands of tons of essential medicines and medical supplies, including urgent treatments for kidney patients, aimed at alleviating the severe shortage of medical supplies and ensuring the continuity of healthcare for patients.

Strategic Humanitarian Partnership

The collaboration between international entities and local partners is viewed as a strategic necessity to ensure aid reaches those most in need. Suzana Takalic, Deputy UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the Palestinian Territories, praised the humanitarian efforts of the UAE, noting that the initiative serves as a strategic partner in supporting relief interventions across various sectors and coordinating to ensure aid reaches its intended recipients.

The operational scope of Gallant Knight 3 continues to evolve, covering a wide range of humanitarian sectors, including health, water, environment, food, and shelter. By strengthening the humanitarian response and supporting the improvement of health and environmental conditions, these initiatives aim to mitigate the suffering of the population in the Gaza Strip.
