The film deliberately avoids the inclusion of fan-favorite characters like Leon Kennedy or Jill Valentine, a choice Cregger explained as a way to avoid a losing endeavor where he would inevitably fall short of the games’ established storytelling.

Cregger has stated that his goal was to replicate the feeling of playing the games for the first time rather than retelling their plots. During an interview, he described his desire to follow a character from point A to point B, mirroring the escalation players experience.
