Kiran Abbavaram’s Chennai Love Story Opens to Strong Box Office Numbers

Directed by Ravi Namburi and produced by SKN and Sai Rajesh, the romantic drama follows a man’s journey to help a heartbroken woman recover from a past relationship.

Plot and Character Dynamics in Chennai Love Story

The film centers on the character Nivi, played by Sri Gouri Priya, who faces emotional devastation after being abandoned by her partner, Ajay (played by Trigun), on their wedding day. Her life shifts when Steven Shankar, portrayed by Kiran Abbavaram, enters the scene.

Steven is introduced as an orphan with aspirations of becoming a director. Initially, his presence irritates Nivi, but his influence eventually helps her move past her previous relationship. The story explores the evolution of their connection as Nivi finds love again, while also addressing the lingering conflict of her former partner’s sudden reappearance in her life.

Production Changes and Casting History

While the film has garnered positive attention for its lead performances, it was not the initial casting choice for the project. Chitrajyothy reported that the roles of the lead couple were originally intended for the actors known for their work in the film Baby, Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya. The production team had even released promotional posters featuring the pair before they ultimately withdrew from the project.

Industry reports suggested that the departure of the original leads was due to issues regarding remuneration. Following their exit, there was speculation that the project might be shelved. However, producers SKN and Sai Rajesh—who previously collaborated on Baby—moved forward by casting Kiran Abbavaram and Sri Gouri Priya in the lead roles.

Critical and Audience Reception

Since its July 24, 2026, release, the film has generated a positive reception from both critics and audiences. Chitrajyothy noted that viewers have been particularly impressed by the performances of the leads, with specific praise directed toward Sri Gouri Priya’s acting. The film’s success serves as a continuation of the working relationship between producer SKN and director Sai Rajesh, who have established a reputation for producing romantic dramas that resonate with younger audiences.

The film features music by Mani Sharma, cinematography by Vishwas Daniel, and editing by Santhosh Naidu. As the project moves through its theatrical run, it highlights the fluidity of casting in the industry, where projects initially slated for one set of actors can find success with a different team, ultimately securing what the outlet described as mind-blowing feedback from audiences.
