Samsung has officially opened global pre-orders for its newest generation of folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z8 Series, following an Unpacked event in London according to ITWire and TechPinas. The fresh lineup introduces three distinct foldable devices: the flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the brand-new passport-style Galaxy Z Fold8, and the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip8. Alongside the smartphones, Samsung also debuted new smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra2.

In the United States, pre-orders are currently open ahead of open sales scheduled to start on August 7, as reported by GSMArena. A New Form Factor: The Passport-Style Galaxy Z Fold8
The headline addition to the portfolio is the Galaxy Z Fold8, a wider, passport-shaped foldable designed specifically for content consumption, reading, and gaming. When closed, it features a 10:16 cover screen; when opened, it reveals a 7.6-inch 4:3 canvas for video and games that can be rotated into a 3:4 portrait orientation resembling a paperback book. Weighing 201g, it is Samsung’s lightest big-screen foldable and runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor alongside a 4,800mAh battery rated for over 26 hours of video playback.

Operating alongside it is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which serves as the direct successor to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold7. Weighing 215g, the Ultra model features a frame milled down to 4.1mm open and 8.9mm closed, an 8-inch main screen (2,504 x 2,256 resolution), a 6.5-inch cover screen, a 200MP main camera, and an upgraded 5,000mAh Silicon Carbon battery. The compact Galaxy Z Flip8 rounds out the lineup as a fashion-focused clamshell device, measuring 6.1mm open and weighing 180g, featuring a 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover screen and a 50MP FlexCam. All three phones ship with Android 17, One UI 9, and carry IP48 water and particle resistance ratings.
