What began as one of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ demonstrations ended in sudden chaos on Saturday night, July 25, 2026, when a white van swerved into a pedestrian path in Berlin’s central Tiergarten park. The vehicle struck multiple people before crashing into a tree, according to reports. The attack occurred shortly before 10 p.m. local time, close to the route of the day’s Pride march and just a short distance from the Brandenburg Gate.

Tens of thousands of mostly young people had traveled to the German capital for the weekend’s Pride celebrations.

One person was killed in Berlin after a suspected terror driver struck pedestrians during the CSD parade, and at least 16 people were injured, with several suffering life-threatening injuries. Hours after the apparent attack many details remained unclear, but police said the vehicle struck multiple people after charging into the city’s central Tiergarten park close to the Brandenburg Gate.

Manhunt Underway for Fugitive Suspect Abdul B.

German authorities issued an urgent wanted notice for a 21-year-old suspect named Abdul B., warning the public to avoid “direct contact” with the suspect, saying that he may be armed and dangerous. Police and prosecutors asked for help in finding the 21-year-old, whom they identified as Abdul B., and stated that he is believed to have injured several people with a moving vehicle on Saturday night, and that one or more people apparently then left that vehicle. Several people were also apparently stabbed, they added.

Police had said earlier that they had identified a suspect with ties to Islamist groups in the German capital. Police spokesperson Florian Nath stated: The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamist circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed. Nath added that we still have no information whatsoever regarding his specific motives, the exact sequence of events, or his role in the crime itself.

Investigating Potential Stab Wounds and Growing Security Concerns in Germany

While investigators worked at the park overnight conducting witness interrogations, police were investigating accounts that in addition to the crash some victims appeared to have suffered stab wounds — but that it was too early to draw any conclusion from those accounts. Overall, more than 2,200 police officers had been on duty in Berlin since Saturday morning to protect the pride parade and other LGBTQ+ events in the city.

The attack forced organisers to cut short one of Europe’s largest Pride events and comes as Germany remains on edge after a series of deadly vehicle and knife attacks in recent years. The German chancellor, Friedrich Merz, vowed to punish those responsible.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner expressed shock, saying that following a peaceful and vibrant pride parade, the rally for a tolerant and peaceful Berlin was attacked in the most brutal manner, adding that This is an attack on our free and open society.
