Bengali television actress Tonni Laha Roy has undergone a successful four-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove nine uterine fibroid tumors at a hospital, following a month of intense anxiety, sleepless nights, and canceled travel plans right before her birthday.
Hospitalization Before a Birthday
Popular television actress Tonni Laha Roy, widely recognized for her work in the serial Mithai where she frequently portrays negative characters, shared a health update from a hospital bed as she faced a major medical crisis during her birthday month. Small-screen familiar face Tonni Laha Roy is known in households through the serial Mithai, and she can be seen mostly in negative characters. Although she is generally a very cheerful actress, she fell seriously ill and was admitted to the hospital right in her birthday month. The actress shared several pictures straight from the hospital, and her birthday falls on July 27.
The actress revealed that instead of celebrating or taking a trip, she had to cancel her travel tickets. Tonnī posted on social media: This year’s birthday month that it will pass in this way, I never thought. Celebration is a far cry, even the tickets for going on a trip had to be cancelled. Really, I never expected such a birthday month in life. Her days became consumed by endless blood tests, magnetic resonance imaging scans, injections, and consultations with physicians amid a backdrop of sleepless nights, non-ending anxiety, and mental stress.
Details of the Uterine Fibroids
Medical evaluations confirmed that Roy was suffering from multiple uterine fibroid tumors. Out of a total of nine fibroids discovered, two were exceptionally large, measuring approximately 9.5 centimeters—comparable to the size of a six-month-old infant. The remaining growths were medium-sized.
Physicians advised that surgery was the only viable treatment given the size and location of the growths, noting that eradication without surgery was impossible. Facing her first major operation, the actress admitted she felt deeply frightened and spent a month gathering multiple medical opinions and diagnostic reports before deciding whom to trust with the procedure. Tonnī expressed her confusion at the time: There was only one confusion in my mind – into whose hands should I hand over my first operation? Whom should I trust?
Surgical Success and Professional Support
The operation lasted four and a half hours, during which the medical team carefully removed the fibroids, and the surgery went well.
While recovering in the hospital—where she has been spending time reading the pages of a storybook from her hospital bed—Roy shared positive news regarding her professional commitments. Before the diagnosis, she had been in talks to work as a lead in her debut web series. Although she had not yet begun shooting and anticipated being replaced, her production house and director Arindam did not replace her. She continued doing her tests and shooting in between, and while she still has one day of shoot remaining before completion, the team has given her the necessary time. Her family stayed by her side day and night and continues to do so, while she also expressed gratitude for their love and the blessings of the divine.
