BMW is preparing to launch an electric M3 in 2027, as revealed through the M Concept Neue Klasse. The high-performance EV will feature four electric motors, 800-volt technology, and a battery exceeding 100 kWh, signaling a shift toward a dual-track strategy that maintains both internal combustion and electric M3 versions.
The company recently released new images of the M Concept Neue Klasse, positioning the future of the M3 alongside the first-generation E30 model to mark the legend’s 40th anniversary.
The concept demonstrates BMW’s new M design language, featuring a distinctive front end with a characteristic “Sharknose” profile, yellow M headlights, and sporty design details inspired by motorsport. This concept serves as a blueprint for a production electric M3 expected to debut in 2027. According to reporting from Iauto, the final series model will likely mirror the concept by about 80 percent, with an estimated price tag in the region of 80,000 euros.
Four Motors and 800-Volt Architecture
Under the skin, the electric M3 is moving away from the modest beginnings of the original E30—which relied on a 200 ZS four-cylinder engine—toward a massive leap in power delivery. The new model will utilize four electric motors and 800-volt technology, paired with a battery pack of more than 100 kWh, intended to ensure high performance for both daily driving and the racing track.

While the specific real-world translation of these percentages remains to be seen, the 2025 window will provide more clarity on how these gains manifest in production vehicles.
The Panoramic Vision Display and “Phygital” Interiors
The center of the dash is dominated by the iDrive screen—a system that has existed in some form since 2001—but the traditional iDrive wheel is gone.
Rather than a traditional dashboard cluster, this is a light bar stretching across the width of the windscreen that projects relevant information at a driver-friendly eye height. According to Wired, the system is interactive, allowing drivers to flick information from the iDrive screen up onto the Panoramic Vision display with a finger. The system also allows the driver to limit how far the information extends across the car, restricting the info to the driver’s eyes only so the passenger does not see it.
BMW Motorrad has already released ConnectedRide Smartglasses for motorcyclists. Priced at £749 ($750), these app-connected glasses provide speed and navigation info directly in the rider’s line of sight, designed to fit snugly under a motorcycle helmet and paired with vehicles like the CE 02 electric scooter.
A Dual-Track Strategy for the M3
The manufacturer has confirmed that there will be two distinct versions of the M3 moving forward.
