CEO Christopher Nelson credited operational improvements and tariff refunds for driving a significant operating margin expansion to 9%.
Manufacturing company Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE:SWK) delivered its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, showcasing stable overall revenue alongside notable profitability gains. While total sales remained flat year over year at $3.96 billion, the company’s bottom-line performance outperformed analyst consensus estimates.
Profitability Surges Past Wall Street Estimates in Q2 2026
On a reported basis, the company recorded total quarterly earnings, while Adjusted EBITDA reached $466.4 million, marking a 12.4% beat over analyst expectations of $414.8 million.
Operating margins experienced a sharp turnaround, climbing to 9% compared to just 4.9% during the same period in the previous year. Organic revenue rose 3% year over year, driven by steady demand for power tools and core product lines.
Power Tools Resurgence and Tariff Refunds Fuel Margin Growth
Management pointed to robust performance in the Tools & Outdoor segment as a primary catalyst for the quarter. Organic revenue growth in power tools reached 8%, supported by targeted promotional activities, effective market activation, and increased retail and commercial placement.
The company also benefited from significant tariff refunds received during the quarter. These refunds contributed approximately 250 basis points to adjusted gross margins, providing capital that executives deployed directly into strategic growth initiatives.
CEO Christopher Nelson noted that volume growth across U.S. retail and commercial channels helped offset softness in outdoor categories. Adjusted segment margins for Tools & Outdoor expanded by 380 basis points year over year, aided by productivity gains and favorable product mix.
Core Brand Momentum and Engineered Fastening Performance
Global priority brands—including DEWALT, STANLEY, and CRAFTSMAN—all recorded positive organic growth. The revitalization of the STANLEY brand and portfolio expansion for CRAFTSMAN, highlighted by the rollout of the V20 battery platform, contributed significantly to the quarterly results through increased in-store merchandising and trade specialist hiring.
Meanwhile, the Engineered Fastening segment achieved 3% organic growth despite a year-over-year revenue decline stemming from a prior divestiture. Growth in this sector was led by automotive and industrial markets, supported by focused investments in high-growth verticals like automotive systems and data centers.
Raised Full-Year Guidance and Financial Outlook
Reflecting confidence in ongoing operational efficiency, management raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to a midpoint of $5.50, representing a 3.8% increase.
CFO Patrick Hallinan addressed ongoing macroeconomic factors during the earnings report, noting that material inflation and tariff changes are expected to be offset by disciplined cost management and productivity gains. However, executives cautioned that further price adjustments may be necessary if input costs continue to rise. With a market capitalization of $14.47 billion, the company plans to continue leveraging tariff-related funds to accelerate investments in product innovation and sales resources.
