SpaceX Prepares For First Public Earnings Report In August

SpaceX is preparing for its first public earnings report in August, fresh off a $60 billion acquisition of AI startup Cursor, a massive $100 billion cash reserve, and a Starlink satellite launch aboard a Falcon 9 first-stage booster from Cape Canaveral.

Wall Street is bracing for what could be the most anticipated event of the earnings season as Space Exploration Technologies approaches its maiden financial disclosure as a public company in early August. CEO Elon Musk is expected to deliver updates on the company’s business following a turbulent and transformative few weeks on public markets.

The company enters the reporting window carrying a market capitalization of $2.2 trillion, a figure that sits roughly 118 times higher than total revenue from the previous year. That lofty valuation has prompted cautious stances across the financial sector, with some analysts advising investors to wait for concrete earnings data before buying in.

Ambitions in Artificial Intelligence and Orbital Data Centers

While public perception often ties SpaceX directly to rocket manufacturing and the Starlink satellite internet network, the company’s S-1 filing points toward a vastly larger horizon. The S-1 filing pegged the total addressable market for SpaceX at $28.5 trillion, with artificial intelligence serving as the primary driver behind that projection.

That strategic pivot toward AI recently materialized in a corporate takeover. SpaceX is acquiring Cursor, an artificial intelligence start-up, in a transaction valued at $60 billion in stock. Backed by just over $100 billion in cash to put to work toward ambitious goals, Musk aims to channel fresh capital into ambitious infrastructure projects, including the deployment of AI data centers in space.

Despite the immense long-term potential, market observers note that the AI unit is currently the company’s least profitable business unit and faces steep competition from OpenAI and others. Meanwhile, core revenue drivers are seeing shifting dynamics. Starlink remains the company’s most profitable business, though its revenue growth slowed dramatically from 96.4% in 2024 to 49.8% last year.

Falcon 9 Flight 10-42 and the Push for Booster Reuse

While financial markets weigh the upcoming earnings report, the company’s hardware operations maintain a relentless launch cadence. SpaceX successfully launched 29 more Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit on Thursday aboard a Falcon 9 rocket on mission 10-42.

The Falcon 9 rocket launched at 5:25 a.m. EDT from Space Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The early morning liftoff produced a striking visual effect in the dawn skies, as an exhaust plume hung in the dawn skies creating a “jellyfish” effect in the sky above the space station due to the sun’s reflection.

The launch has been marked a success. Thursday’s launch was the 597th time a Falcon booster was reused. There have been 46 total launches from Florida’s Space Coast this year. Blue Origin has also made rocket booster recoveries, successfully recovering two out of three launches of its New Glenn rocket, while preparing for a fourth launch from Launch Complex 36.

Booster 1067 Chases Historic Recovery Milestone

The mission relied on a seasoned workhorse of the orbital fleet. The first-stage booster powering the flight, designated Booster 1067, marked the 36th flight by the rocket’s first stage booster, making more flights than any from SpaceX.

Booster 1067 is now pursuing the all-time record by NASA’s Space Shuttle Discovery, which launched and returned 39 times. Approximately 8 minutes and 19 seconds after launch, the first stage booster landed on the drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean.

SpaceX intends to reuse its boosters up to 40 times or more. As Space Exploration Technologies trades on Wall Street under the ticker SPCX with a current price of $110.19 and a market cap of $1.4T calculated using publicly traded shares outstanding only, investors watch to see how the company’s long-term opportunities unfold.
