Pokémon Pokopia Launches Massive 2.0 Update With Underwater Diving

Nintendo has released the 2.0 update for Pokémon Pokopia, marking the game’s biggest patch since its launch this past March. According to Gamingbible, the game is one of the highest-scored titles of 2026. Alongside the free 2.0 update, Nintendo has launched phase one of its paid DLC, the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, priced at $34.99 / £29.99 and introducing a new underwater town named Bubbly Basin. Phase two is slated to add new features in late 2026, followed by another new town in 2027.

Underwater Exploration and New Movement Abilities

A headline addition in the 2.0 update is a free dive ability available to all players. To unlock the new skill, players can interact with Professor Tangrowth and provide five Seaweed. While the dive ability integrates with the underwater setting of the paid Bubbly Basin DLC, it is also usable across all biomes, enabling players to travel, build, and collect loot just below the ocean’s surface.

In addition to underwater movement, companions can now follow players while moving with Surf, Glide, Rollout, or Magnet Rise. Other movement and convenience additions include new emotes (“Lie Down” and Ready, Set, Go!), settings to hide cancellation confirmation messages for Magnet Rise, movement options while the move wheel is open, and motion-sickness reduction settings for the camera.

Portal Pods, Shared Storage, and Quality-of-Life Upgrades

The 2.0 patch includes close to 100 items and requested quality-of-life adjustments. Among the new items are safe boxes and portal pods. According to msn.com, the portal pod recipe costs 3,000 points and requires crafting materials consisting of 1 Rare Pokemetal and 10 Pokemetals. The recipe becomes available after players begin rebuilding Palette Town and raise its environment level. Building two portal pods allows for instant transportation between areas of a specific biome, and the item functions with shared storage across multiple locations for up to 140 items.

Other structural and inventory adjustments include:

  • Appraising lost relics in batches of up to 10 at a time with Professor Tangrowth.
  • Crafting material consumption prioritizing storage boxes next to the workbench over items in the player’s bag.
  • An increased power generator placement limit from 64 to 128, excluding furnaces.
  • An increased town photo display limit from 10 to 40.
  • A new function to delete items placed inside objects such as garbage bins.

Habitat Fixes and Companion Adjustments

The 2.0 update modifies how Pokémon habitats and emotions behave following structural changes. If a Pokémon’s habitat is destroyed, the character will automatically move back in if the habitat is rebuilt within a certain area. Additionally, Pokémon that become sad after furniture is removed will now notice more quickly when the furniture is replaced, and Pokémon that taught the player an emote will now respond with the same emote when used.

This Brand New Underwater Town & Diving Feature LOOKS WAY too GOOD in Pokopia?!

Further updates allow non-assigned Pokémon to help with cooking during construction projects, enable Smearguru to learn patterns from reference photos, and permit multiple uses of Paint, Gather Honey, and Collect in a single interaction.
