Pokopia to Add Shared Storage System in Major August 5 Update

Inventory management in Pokopia has long been a point of friction for players. The game’s limited carrying capacity effectively forces users to restart their resource gathering in every new region, creating a logistical hurdle that often results in a confusing sprawl of storage bins across different maps. That friction ends this week.

Shared Storage and the August 5 Update

The free update on August 5th introduces a shared storage item designed to eliminate the need for constant backtracking between regions. If a player deposits a resource in the Withered Wasteland, they can retrieve it by placing another shared storage box in a different area, such as the Bubbly Basin.

The shared storage unit is capable of holding up to 140 items. This shift addresses a specific pain point where players struggle to track which specific bins in which regions hold critical materials, such as Wing Fossil heads. Kallie Plagge notes that storing many items in Pokopia is a huge chore, even if you like organizing, and the new system means a lot less running around trying to remember where you put all your copper.

Rebekah Valentine of Kotaku described the lack of shared storage as one of her biggest issues with this game, noting that while limited inventory forces players to start over in new regions to prevent fast-tracking, it eventually becomes unwieldy and confusing to keep track of what you have in what bin in what region, and where in that region. Valentine detailed attempts to separate items into decoration bins, resource bins, block bins, and so forth, only to have them “jumbled up” in her brain.

Bubbly Basin and the $35 Expansion Pass

While the storage fix is a central part of the free update, the release coincides with the arrival of Bubbly Basin, the game’s first paid DLC. Access to this new region is reserved for those who have purchased the $35 expansion pass.

However, the update isn’t strictly gated behind a paywall. All players, regardless of whether they bought the expansion, will receive the new Dive ability. This allows a specific new ability for Ditto, enabling the Pokémon to dive underwater.

New Pokémon and Underwater Mechanics

Beyond storage and regional access, the update expands the game’s mechanical depth, particularly regarding underwater interaction. Data sourced from Famitsu and shared by Serebii confirms the addition of new Pokémon, specifically Wiglett and Mareanie.
